Built From the Work of Helping People Navigate Healthcare
Pathwell Collective grew from years of firsthand work helping patients and caregivers navigate a healthcare system that has become increasingly digital, connected and complex.
Its roots are in the work of Islands Against Cancer, Inc., where patient navigation, advocacy, education and technology support revealed a challenge that reaches far beyond cancer.
The Need Became Clear Through Real Patient Navigation
Pathwell Collective was formed from the experience of its founder, Keri Campbell Seay, through her work founding and leading Islands Against Cancer, Inc.
Working directly with cancer patients, caregivers and the medical community repeatedly exposed gaps in healthcare navigation, digital health literacy, patient advocacy and responsible technology use.
Once patients and caregivers received direct support, practical education and help organizing the systems around them, the value of that support became obvious.
That gap became the foundation for Pathwell.
The goal was to take what had been learned through hands-on patient navigation and transform it into education that reaches far more people than one organization or one diagnosis ever could.
Technology Changed Healthcare. Education Did Not Always Keep Pace.
Patient portals, electronic records, telehealth, online scheduling, secure messaging, automated notifications and digital health tools have transformed the way healthcare information moves.
For many people, these systems create greater access and convenience. For others, they create an entirely new layer of responsibility.
Patients
Patients are expected to access portals, review test results, manage appointments, follow instructions, maintain medication information and decide what needs attention next.
Caregivers
Caregivers often take on these responsibilities when a patient cannot manage them independently, adding another layer to an already demanding role.
Healthcare Teams
Medical professionals increasingly rely on digital communication systems while patients still need help understanding, organizing and acting on the information they receive.
Information Continuity Matters
Through patient navigation work, one challenge appeared again and again: people often leave medical appointments carrying an enormous amount of information.
Medications, test results, procedures, follow-up appointments, surgery instructions, symptoms, referrals and next steps all have to be remembered and acted upon.
Trying to listen, process difficult information, ask questions and take accurate notes at the same time creates another burden for people already managing illness and uncertainty.
Through Islands Against Cancer, authorized listening and transcription technology has been used during patient appointments to help preserve what was discussed.
With patient authorization, the information can be provided to the patient and shared with an authorized caregiver for reference.
Allow the patient to be present for the conversation while creating a clearer record of what was discussed and what comes next.
The Need Did Not End With Cancer
The same digital-navigation barriers appear throughout healthcare.
Survivorship
People who complete cancer treatment still manage portals, follow-up appointments, medications, medical records and multiple providers.
Aging & Complex Care
Digital systems become harder to manage when someone is aging, living with several medical conditions or experiencing cognitive changes.
Caregiver Responsibility
Families often become responsible for coordinating care, information, appointments and digital access when a patient needs additional support.
How do we take what has been learned helping individual patients and make that knowledge available to patients, caregivers, advocates, navigators, healthcare professionals and organizations across the broader healthcare community?
From Individual Navigation to Scalable Education
Pathwell Collective is an independent, for-profit education and training company created to expand this work beyond a single diagnosis, organization or community.
Instead of requiring every person to have access to an in-person navigator, Pathwell develops structured education, training and assessment that can reach people wherever they are.

Where Healthcare, Navigation and Technology Meet
Healthcare Navigation
Organizing care, preparing for appointments, understanding next steps, communicating effectively and recognizing when questions or concerns need escalation.
Digital Health Navigation
Patient portals, electronic health information, telehealth, caregiver and proxy access, secure communication and emerging healthcare technologies.
Responsible AI in Healthcare
Using artificial intelligence as a supporting tool while understanding privacy, verification, limitations and the continued importance of human judgment.
Patient Advocacy
Helping people ask better questions, organize information, communicate more effectively and participate more confidently in healthcare.
Professional Education
Applied education for advocates, navigators and healthcare professionals working in modern digital healthcare environments.
Organizational Training
Structured programs for healthcare and nonprofit organizations seeking consistent education, assessment and workforce development.
Education That Leads to Demonstrated Knowledge
Pathwell is designed to do more than publish information.
Where appropriate, Pathwell programs use structured lessons, applied exercises, assessments and examinations to evaluate whether participants understand the material taught.
This creates a repeatable education model that works for individual learners as well as organizations that need standardized training.
Training becomes repeatable.
Knowledge becomes scalable.
Separate Organizations. Shared Origin.
Pathwell Collective and Islands Against Cancer, Inc. are separate organizations with different structures and purposes.
Nonprofit Patient & Caregiver Support
Islands Against Cancer is an independent nonprofit serving cancer patients and caregivers through advocacy, navigation, education and practical support.
Independent Education & Training Company
Pathwell Collective is a separate for-profit education company created to transform real-world navigation experience into scalable education, training and assessment for a broader healthcare audience.
Pathwell provides applicable training to Islands Against Cancer without charge as part of its commitment to supporting the nonprofit work from which the need for Pathwell was first recognized.
Standardized Training for Patient-Facing Roles
One example of the Pathwell model is volunteer and workforce preparation.
Organizations supporting patients often need a consistent way to prepare staff or volunteers before they begin patient-facing activities.
Pathwell education can provide a structured curriculum, assessment process and documented completion requirements that organizations can incorporate into their own training standards.
Technology Should Make Healthcare More Navigable, Not Leave More People Behind.
Patients should understand the systems they are expected to use. Caregivers should have practical tools for the responsibilities they increasingly carry. Advocates and navigators should be prepared for a healthcare environment shaped by digital information and artificial intelligence.
Healthcare professionals and organizations should understand the challenges patients face outside the examination room, and emerging technology should be used responsibly with appropriate privacy, verification, authorization and human judgment.
Learn to Navigate Healthcare in a Changing Digital Environment
Pathwell education is being built for patients, caregivers, advocates, navigators, professionals and organizations seeking practical knowledge they can apply in the real world.
